Blackhawks are the 2015
Stanley Cup Champions
The Stanley Cup
resides in Chicago once more (3rd time in 6 seasons).
Chicago took home the trophy with a 2 to 0 win in Game 6 of
the Series. The Blackhawks skated to the win on home
ice, overcoming the National Hockey League's highest scoring
team. Tampa Bay Lightening coach Jon Cooper was quoted
as saying after the contest, "nobody scored, the well ran
dry". Much as the outmanned Cleveland Cavaliers
made it an exciting series by taking games 2 and 3 putting
Golden State down two games to one going into game 4, Tampa
Bay outscored Chicago 4 to 3 and 3 to 2 in games 3 and 4
before the Blackhawks swept the next three contests.
Chicago defenseman Duncan Keith was named Most
Valuable Player of the playoffs, taking home the Conn Smythe
Trophy.
Columbus sits out the
Playoffs
The Bluejackets
finished the 2014-2015 season with 42 wins, well back in the
pack and out of the playoffs with division rivals Pittsburgh,
the New York Islanders, Washington and especially the New York
Rangers upstream from the Bluejackets. Carolina ended up
being the basement dweller in the Metropolitan with only 30
wins.

Approaching the status of a religion in Canada, Ice Hockey is
also very large in the United States, Finland, Sweden and other
countries with either lots of colder months for outdoor rinks or
lots of indoor (artificial) ice rinks. Since the first
"World Championship" during the 1883 Montreal Winter Carnival,
the sport has evolved on the professional level, from the
International Professional Hockey League in 1904 featuring teams
in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Ontario, Canada to the
National Hockey League, formed in 1917.
